In this Touriscope survey, we have attempted to identify all Tunisian and foreign chain hotels present in Tunisia. The results show that integrated chains account for 40% of the mid-range and top-of-the-range hotels. So-called ‘independent’ hotels are still in the majority.

According to our estimate, independent hotels account for 83.5% of the total number of classified accommodation units. Chains account for only 16.5%.

The weight of chains is greater in the 3, 4 and 5 star categories, where they account for 40% of the total number of hotels. Of these 152 chain hotels, 73 are part of Tunisian chains (around 47%). International chains and those associated with tour operators account for 53% of the total number of chain hotels.

    • See below our Table of hotel chains in Tunisia: foreign chains, TO brands and Tunisian chains.

Compared with the survey published in 1996 by Profession Tourisme magazine (No. 96, May 1996), at least three Tunisian chains have disappeared: Abou Nawas (17 hotels in 1996), Dar Hotels & Resorts (10 hotels) and Palm Beach Hotels (6 hotels). Conversely, we note the emergence of Golden Yasmin Hotels (7 hotels) and the recent rise of Medina Hotels (5 hotels).

Among the international chains, Magic Hotels dominates the ranking (15 hotels). It is followed by Iberostar (8 hotels), which in 1996 had just 5 hotels and was planning to expand to 12.
